Danish animal killers strike again. Now the demented Danes have taken-out 4 lions to make way for 1 lion.
Like most Australians we were shocked when Copenhagen Zoo decided to kill Marius, a healthy giraffe and feed it to lions for reasons that were essentially 'genetic'. 'If an animal's genes are well represented in a population, further breeding with that particular animal is unwanted' zoo director Bengt Holst said. Camilla Bergvall of Animal Rights Sweden said 'keeping species in zoos caused the individual animals to suffer. Breeding animals for captivity created the limited gene pool problem that led to Marius's death'.
