Simon Crean Quits Politics

Simon Crean will not be recontesting his seat at the next election. We have been a critic of Crean's involvement in the Tasmanian logging industry. In may ways Simon Crean and his brother, ex-Tasmanian treasurer David Crean symbolise the hypocrisy and corruption of the Labor party. Why were both brothers involved with Hamed Sepawi and the Taib Cartel in Sarawak at the same time? Sepawi is first cousin of Taib Mahmud, the man who has stolen more than $22 billion from the state of Sarawak, yet Simon Crean supported Ta Ann and manipulated the Australian taxpayer to further fund a company that avoids paying tax in Malaysia. This is corruption pure and simple.

Meanwhile David Crean was building dams in Sarawak to make hydro power while Taib was exporting millions of tonnes of coal. We think the Crean brothers are either incredibly stupid or incredibly corrupt. Simon's outstanding hypocrisy was on display during the Tasmanian Forest Agreement. After spending decades defending the clear-felling of Tasmanian hardwood forests, Crean decided he was now an environmental savior that was going to buy-out the lot of them. Gunns, Forestry Tasmania and Ta Ann all got cash from the National Treasury and a lot of forest contractors were paid millions to leave the industry. Which they only pretended to do. Expect Simon to pop-up on the board of Linfox Transport or do some special contract work with Bill Kelty if Labor stays in power.
